PROHIBITED ITEMS LIST
Prohibited Items for Skip Hire
When using our skip hire services, please be aware that certain items are prohibited. These items can be hazardous to people, the environment, and property, and they should not be placed in our skips. Here is a list of items you should not include when disposing of waste in a skip:
Appliances & Electrical Items
-
- Large electrical appliances, such as ovens, washing machines, and fridge freezers, should not be placed in a skip. These items require specialised recycling or disposal.
- Small electricals like microwaves, TVs, and computers also should not be placed in a skip.
Tyres
-
- Skip hire firms usually do not accept tires. Please contact a dedicated tire collection or recycling firm for proper disposal.
Batteries
-
-
- Batteries should not be placed in skips due to the harmful chemicals they contain. Look for dedicated recycling points at local disposal centers or supermarkets for battery disposal.
-
Paints, Fuel, and Solvents
-
- Skip hire companies typically cannot dispose of liquid-based solvents as they are considered hazardous waste. Empty and clean containers may be added to a skip, but the contents are usually handled separately by licensed disposal services.
Gas Cylinders
-
- Gas cylinders should never be placed in a skip due to their potential danger. Return them to a store for reuse or refilling.
Plasterboard
-
- Plasterboard emits harmful gases when mixed with other waste, causing contamination.
- We limit the amount to a maximum of 10% of capacity (5 full plaster boards for a five yard skip)
- We ask that that Plasterboards be bagged up to prevent contamination with other skip contents.
- If you have more than 4 full Plasterboards of waste we reccomend you locate a local, dedicated plasterboard recycling facility for proper disposal.
Mattresses
-
- Mattresses are not permitted in skips due to their size and weight. Some companies may offer mattress collection and recycling services.
Clinical Waste
-
- Clinical waste, including needles and other sharp items, should not be placed in a skip. It is dangerous for both waste handlers and the environment.
Asbestos
-
- For more information, you can also refer to the UK Government’s guidelines on asbestos disposal and contact your local council for specific disposal recommendations.
